Net-Zero Timber Frame Residence

NET ZERO TIMBER FRAME

Raised between March snow storms this custom timber frame will form the core for this architect designed Net-Zero Timber Frame Residence.  Set with an amazing view overlooking Penobscot Bay, above Rockland, ME, this residence will have zero net energy costs.  This means that it will produce and retain all of its own electricity and heat.  Our second project with Net-Zero specialists, Black Brothers Builders Inc., this handcrafted timber frame will be enclosed by a super-insulated wall system of dense pack cellulose.

The timbers in this frame are Maine harvested Eastern Hemlock and the knee braces are Red Oak.  All the timbers are treated with Heritage Natural Finishes ‘original finish’, a really nice linseed oil based treatment.  Additionally the timbers are left ‘rough-sawn’ so as to see and feel the texture of the wood, adding a great sense of character to the frame.  We are pleased to be part of the ever-growing movement of energy conscious building and hope that this Net-Zero Timber Frame serves as a model for many more!
